Debby Brisker burk

I am a mixed media painter, and native Washingtonian, who enjoys travel and lives and works in the DC metro area and Rehoboth, DE. I was born into a family who revered the arts. As a child, I was very fortunate to have had the advantages of seeing the great art in the museums in Washington D.C. In college, I had the opportunity to study art in Paris at the L’Academie de Port Royale and travel throughout Europe, Israel and the Caribbean and later Africa, Asia, and South America.

My early influences include my sibling artists (dancer, musician, painter, actor), art teachers in sculpture and painting in high school and at university.  I obtained my undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine arts and art education at The George Washington University.  Additionally, I took classes in advanced drawing and painting post masters’ degree at American University, and studied with Polly Hammett, Skip Lawrence, and Alex Powers. I also taught art privately and publicly to adults, high school students, and led a group of artists to France and juried for Congresswoman Connie Morella in Md.

My work has been shown and collected nationally and internationally in the U.S., Caribbean, India, Egypt, Israel, Russia, and Canada. The work has been reviewed by The Washington Post, The City Paper, Cape Gazette, among other publications. Currently, my work can be seen at Nepenthe Gallery in Alexandria, Va., Gallery 50 in Rehoboth Beach, De.,William Ris Gallery in Jamesport, N.Y., and online at Saatchiart.com.

the newsworthy

Fall 2022 show at Nepenthe Gallery, featuring “Surfs Up”, a 48’x69’ acrylic and mixed media on canvas

My work has evolved from an impressionistic view of the world to an abstract expression of both inner and outer worlds.

I am thrilled that one of my paintings “Surfs Up”, has been accepted into this juried publication of the world’s most exciting artists and works.

I feel energized from creating art. Jumping in the river of life, in the now, is how I experience the act of painting, collaging and drawing.

Exploring the human form is less plotted out and more stream-of-consciousness.
